Do you read RSS news feeds? Maybe you should!

If you read a lot of different news source every day, RSS feeds may save you time.

Without going into too much detail, RSS stands for “really simple syndication” and is a way to simplify subscription of web feeds. A web feed can be news from a newspaper, blog posts from a personal blog and many other things.

The big thing with RSS is that it is standardized. All websites that use RSS can be read with the same kind of software or apps. This means that you can read The Guardian, Buzzfeed, CNN and Apples product announcements in one app. I follow upwards of 50 different feeds every day. It wouldn’t be possible unless I could do it in a single place.

There are lots of apps for reading RSS feeds. Which one you should choose depends on your personal preferences. Through the years I have used many different. The last couple of years I have used Unread. Feedly, Flipboard and Reeder 3 are other popular choices.

I like Flipboard but think it is slower when you have a lot of sources to read.

Yes. I use it more to read stuff not from subscriptions. I think it’s quite good at finding articles I might be interested in.

I remember I used to have an RSS feed way back on an old Windows PC. They used to be part of the widget feature I believe? This has reminded me how useful they really are!

Yes, widgets have used RSS feeds. Since it only carries information, you can use it for almost infinite purposes.
